I’m Roderick William MacLeod, a resident of Tinton Falls, NJ and I’ve been playing the bagpipes for thirty years; beginning with a band called The Royal Highland Immigrant Corps Regiment of Foot in Oceanport, NJ. After several years I joined The Pipes and Drums of the Shamrock and Thistle from Point Pleasant, NJ. In 1993 a friend and I founded The Pipes and Drums of the Atlantic Watch of Red Bank, NJ.
I proudly wear the MacLeod of Harris and MacLeod of Lewis tartans, as well as the tartan of the Black Watch and play Scottish and Irish music—along with some popular American music set to the pipes. Additionally, I play Strathbeys, Jigs, Reels, slow airs and many Christian hymns.
When playing indoors, I play the Scottish Smallpipes: a smaller version of the Great Pipes which are perfect for interior playing, having a softer tone and reduced volume. I can play Smallpipes in a room full of people carrying on conversations—greatly appreciated on solemn occasions such as funerals or wakes.
If your occasion calls for a duet or multiple pipers, I am able to provide them. My son, Kyle, is a champion Scottish snare drummer and is available to play with me when a drummer is requested.
My services are available for weddings, house parties, corporate events, funerals, memorials, advertising, and many other occasions for celebration or commemoration.
A unique service offered is the Happy Birthday Surprise. I will arrive at a specific time in full Highland regalia and play birthday greetings for a special someone.
